BEST (and worst) of 2008, FIRST HALF! (Part 1: JE & H!P related)
Sunday, June 22, 2008
Many people have been telling me 2008 is a good year, so how good is it actually? This post is more for me to keep track of the good stuff, but I hope it'll entertain you and get you to go find out more about some of these artists.
Part 1 of the sum-ups feature the JE and H!P related stuff, so here we go.
[Favorite JE group]Very hard to make a choice, but I suppose it should be them.
Tackey & TsubasaThey're funny when they go on shows, and their songs constantly make me smile. And every single time I hear they are coming out with another single, I'll go into panic-euphoria-mode. That's pretty much indicative of a favorite isn't it?
Honorable Mentions: Tegomasu, Kanjani 8, Hey! Say! JUMP
[Favorite JE boy]Not much reason to back up this favorite, except maybe because he's getting cuter? I'm purely superficial when it comes to them JE. He's sort of funny and doesn't sulk much on shows (much unlike a certain Nishikido Ryo) and he's kind of bitchy too, so I suppose that's why.
Murakami Shingo
Honorable mentions: Takizawa Hideaki, Nishikido Ryo, Miyake Ken

[Least favorite JE boy]
Akanishi JinHis dress sense remains as horrible as ever, and I can never figure out why girls (and some guys) like him all that much. He's not excessively chatty on shows, and he constantly has a sickening pout on his face. SMILE MORE DAMNIT.
[Favorite JE single]I can't really decide between these three:

Arashi - One Love, Tackey & Tsubasa - Koiuta, Tegomasu - Ai ai gasa
I guess if it really came down to it, I'll choose
Ai Ai gasa as the best single this year, with TxT in second place. I've not heard the Arashi B-sides yet, so I can't really decide where it would go as a SINGLE. But titular song wise, I'm guessing it would be
Ai ai gasa - One Love - Koiuta.
As a song,
Ai Ai gasa is really easy on the ears, and the harmonious voice of Tegomasu makes it all the more delightful.
One Love has a really catchy tune, which might be slightly let down by some of the members' weaker voices. As for
Koiuta, it's a nice tune but sort of pales in comparison to the other two.
[Favorite JE PV]For very obvious reasons. Click
[HERE] for my review on that PV.
[Favorite H!P group]I'm basing this purely on how much I like their music, and came up with this group.
Milky WayWith a song like that, they just can't lose. I anticipate at least one more single from them in the near future, and hopefully it'll be as good as their first.
Honorable mentions: Athena & Robikerrotsu, Morning Musume

[Least Favorite H!P group]
I don't know all of them enough to have an opinion whatsoever.
[Favorite H!P girl]No fight.
Mitsui Aika
She's cute, smart and talks to a puppet. Perfect! Now I'll just put a sock puppet on my.... Ahem nevermind.
Honorable mentions: Niigaki Risa, Kamei Eri

[Least favorite H!P girl]
JunjunAfter she pulled that crying stunt on Haromoni, she just dropped all the way from HIGH UP to my least favorite member in H!P (oh ok, Morning Musume, what with me not caring about anyone else). It's not as if you're 12 or something, you're freaking 20 for god's sakes! GROW UP. It's only a lousy memory game! NONE OF YOUR FANS CARE that you cannot memorize 129843791382 types of vegetables in 20 minutes! Your management don't give half a rat's ass about it either! Why the big deal? Sheeeesh.
[Favorite H!P Single]Milky Way - Anataboshi, Athena & Robikerottsu - Seishun! LOVE LUNCH
Anataboshi may sound ridiculous at first, but it soon get infectious to the point of being really addictive.
Seishun! LOVE LUNCH is just cute and chirpy.
[Favorite H!P PV]No fight.
Sparkly, full of energy, and a crazy dance. Cute sexy but not skanky costumes too! The dance is tight, and looks effortless although all of us know better. Love it!

Athena & Whoevertheyare - A lethal force to be reckoned with
Wednesday, January 23, 2008
I've always been a casual Hello! Project fan, and was only crazy over
Mikan due to the shiny cards they were giving out (and the good song of course). And from there I fell in love with Aika, that little bouncy.... thing. And from there I fell in love with this group with a name I cannot remember for my life (the Katakana name, at least).
To be honest,
Shouri no BIG WAVE!!! wasn't that amazing a song, but I bought it anyways because I have a bad addiction for buying random CDs and the photobooklet was cute. I'm quite sure I've not listened the second song fully yet. That didn't impress me much either.
But their latest release, Seishun Love Lunch? Oh my. Cute would be an understatement. I didn't know what the hype over this song was all about until I've watched the PV and heard the full thing. Be careful - if you've not heard it yet, take all your belongings and your family and run as far as you can. Once you get in, you can NEVER come out. It is that cute and bubbly.
The PV is simple and storyline-less like many other PVs I've snarked about in my previous entry, but at least Seishun Love Lunch more than makes up for it by smothering you in overwhelming cuteness and pretty colors. The girls basically make lunch (ah duh, the title) with Robby (and Kerobby, or Kerobby, or Robby and Kerobby? I'm confused again) and present it to the camera, and dance along to the song with adorable childish dance moves.
The song is infinitely catchy and easy to sing along to, much because this is the theme song for a children's show. Nonetheless, if you get past your "I'm all adult and can't listen to kiddy songs" mentality, this would prove much too endearing to miss. Soon you'll find yourself shouting "HAI HAI HAI HAI!" along with the girls, complete with hand actions. Be warned.
The only part that was kinda weird in the PV was when this girl (whatever her name is, bless her soul) (Post-post edit: Oh, so she is Nakajima Saki) took out a tempura and an octopus (from her groin ala Doraemon, no less) and decided to stick them together. It's probably just me and my dirty mind, but DING DONG DING DONG! SEXUAL INNUENDO ANYONE?! A tempura looks like, well YOU KNOW, and an Octopus...?
Too coincidental. But that's just me.
Otherwise, this PV proves to be fun in the kiddy show kind of way, which will definitely make you want to do the hand actions along with the girls and smile when they open their lunchboxes (heehee, dirty) for you. Unless you're an anal-retentive adult, then too bad for you.

Hirai Ken Spree! // Last order of 2007
Thursday, December 20, 2007
This post is seriously LONG overdue. I've received these for a week (or so) already and I'm only blogging about it now.
Anyways, this is a purchase post, which means image-heavy, snarky-lighty. xD (In fact, this post says more with the pictures than words. The words are just fanboying squees.)
Hirai Ken Utabaka 10th Anniversary Special PhotobookFirst of all, this photobook is HUGE and storage is a BITCH. I've placed my copy of fakestar beside the book to show you how humongous it is. Which explains the CRAZY SHIPPING FEE. The photobook came with 3 flimsy postcards, which are rather nice really.
The book itself was more of a collection of offshot photos from his various concerts. The posed shots probably took up only a third of the book, slightly disappointing. Overall, the book is a great book to get only if you're a fan. Otherwise you're really just wasting your money and energy looking at the book (you'll need tons of energy to read this heavy chunk of paper.)
SWITCH November 2004
A very old copy of SWITCH with Hirai Ken on the cover that was surprisingly still in stock at HMV. Needless to say, this copy made me very happy. What's more - Hirai Ken in YUKATA is LOVE. Loads of love with cotton candy and vanilla ice cream. =D

SWITCH October 2007
A much newer copy of SWITCH, this time with Tokyo Jihen on the cover. The insides did not have much Hirai Ken (only about 6 pages) but this was SO worth it for the fakestar-inspired pictures.

You probably can't see it from the photos, but Hirai Ken shaves his chest. Sexy. xD

ROCKIN' ON JAPAN October 2007
This features Spitz on the cover, and is SO WORTH IT as well! Hirai Ken was just lying all suggestively (ok, so it's just me) on a bed with his suit an aviator glasses and ohhhhh. Just such a great shoot too.

And so, my new year's resolution for 2008 would be to collect EVERY single magazine Hirai Ken appears in. May sound daunting, but it isn't. Hirai Ken doesn't have a lot of them. xD Lucky (or not) me.
[Edit at 11 PM]
I didn't want to have a new entry just for these so...

KOH+ - KISS Shite + Tamaki Hiroshi - Secret of Hiroshi Tamaki "Spirit" + EXILE - EXILE LOVE + Athena & Whoevertheyare - Shouri no BIG WAVE!!!This happens to be my last purchase of this year. Will skip blogging about
KISS Shite and Shouri no BIG WAVE!!! because they are boring (
Kiss Shite) or overblogged (
Shouri no BIG WAVE!!!).
Watch out for many reviews in the next few days. =D
