a-nation '08: The good, the bad and the costumes (Part 2 of 2)

Time for the costumes! Also ranked from worst (10th) to best (1st), so should be fascinating.

[Costume 10th place: hitomi]

I really don't know what to say about this white poofy thing. It looks like a frayed tampon (if that was possible) and look! A spot of red on the tampon's head! It must be working!

Seriously though, the grandma pants peeking out under her dress is really unflattering. And couldn't she have worn heels? The flat shoes makes her look like she's going to play tennis.

And the ribbon. God the ribbon. You're NOT A CHRISTMAS PRESENT SO TAKE THE DAMN THING OFF.

I shudder to think what would happen if it had rained during her performance. She'd either look like wet toilet paper, or a white umbrella, depending on how her costume holds up.

[Costume 9th place: Suzuki Ami]

I quite like the sailor/stewardess inspired blue-white outfit actually. Too bad she wore it for only.... I don't know, 3 seconds? And the skirt looks stretched outwards (which I suspect might be due to the OTHER skirt she was wearing underneath this one), which makes her hips look disproportionately (and very suddenly) huge.

But as you know, she changed the outfit to this rainbow of a mess. A metallic rainbow dress? What are you, 5 years old? The least she could do was have slightly bigger hair so that it would distract us from all that color, and make her look less..... bare. Don't you think the outfit looks incomplete?

Oh but wait! She brings out the winning formula! Silly flowy dunnowhatyoucallit sleevy things! Now not only does she look 5, she looks like a drunk dying butterfly. Kind of perfect don't you think?

[Costume 8th place: TRF]

Normally I wouldn't have anything against the lead vocals' outfit. In her case however, she's just a bit too old. The tattered skirt looks sad on her and the boots just look gawdy. I'm quite sure anyone else (like hitomi for example) would have carried it off properly, but this woman should really give it a break.

But she's not the worst. The worst are her other groupmates! At their age - HOT PANTS? Bikini tops? Are they trying to scare the living bajeexus out of those poor young kids in the audience?

The other one wears a metallic top with RAINBOW COLORED LINEN PANTS. Hippie much? Did she fall into a tie dye tank or something?

And the guy. I'll never figure out why he is so persistent on the long slicked-back hair. It makes him look like an old tranny, which makes the fact that he's topless ALL THE TIME all the more disturbing. I do not want old man meat, so cover up please kthxbai.

[Costume 7th place: Every Little Thing]

I like the guy's outfit! It's simple, not too old and not too young for his age and doesn't cause an explosion in my head due to complex combinations and such. It matches the a-nation colors and his guitar too! That's pretty smart in a subtle way.

But his partner. Oh goodness. Did she just grab a bedsheet and cut holes in it or something? And the leggings! They make her legs look gray, which in turn makes her look like a weird gray-legged alien. She's what I always imagined the closet monster would look like. White and gray with bedsheets all over.

[Costume 6th place: Hamasaki Ayumi]

To be honest, Ayumi doesn't look all that bad. It's just the others look much better than her in comparison.

Firstly, the menses dress. I have ranted about its flowiness and blood-redness too much already. let's move on shall we?

The metallic top and pants. I will never understand Japanese artistes and their fascination for looking like new car parts. WHAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT HAVING YOUR ASS REFLECT LIGHT IN 2981279817298 DIRECTIONS?! Eeesh. Lucky for her, the rain distracted everyone too much for anyone to notice.

The rest of the outfits however are quite ok. The sarong and bikini fits the summer theme quite well (pity about the rain, else we could have seen how flowy it is or something). I'm not too sure about the color though. It looks like antibiotic orange, you know, the kind little children take? Something more vibrant might have worked better.

Then the T-shirt and denim hot pants! I like the plain white t-shirt with glittered print and we all know denims always go well with t-shirts, so that's not a problem either.

But I'm guessing she has only a few more years to wear this kind of outfits, considering she's... Well, nearing amniotic liquid rotting age.

[Costume 5th place: Otsuka Ai]

Simple yet stylish! This outfit seems like the kind of outfit that requires little thought to throw together, but yet it's so smart in those little ways. The rose-printed white pants looks too girly for a guy, yet makes a girl look kind of rocker-chic in that rebellious kind of way.

And with Ai's playful personality, she attached an instrument-playing (clarinet...?) plush toy onto her belt. Simple yet clever! I really like this one.

[Costume 4th place: Koda Kumi]

The glittery bikini and mini skirt! How can any (young) woman go wrong with that? It's sexy, cute and glamorous all at once. It's sexy because, well, duh it's a bikini and miniskirt. It's cute because it's in a shade of really girly pink. It's glamorous because it's so glittery under the spotlight, which makes it perfect for this performance.

What I really like about this outfit however is the fact that it doesn't look trashy when she was singing Moon Crying all alone on stage. The glittery look of the outfit caught the light and sparkled in a starry kind fo way, which was nice.

And well, boobs. You can't go wrong with boobs. Especially Kumi boobs.

The other outfit was supposed to be cool and androgynous I think. She looks kind of young in this outfit, which I'm not too sure is all that good a thing. Kuu knows how to pull off this kind clothes very well, so she has a distinct advantage when wearing these. Her loud and strong stage persona gives this outfit an added edge, finishing off an otherwise cheap-looking outfit.

[Costume 3rd place: Do As Infinity]

I like this one only because it's so simple and understated yet "cool" in that rocker musician way. You can't go wrong with denims and t-shirts, unless you're like phenomenally fashion-retarded. I also like how Ryo (I think?) uses a bandana to cover up his hair to make himself look younger (by covering up his receding hairline). It's simple, but it works really well.

And let's be honest here, this is really the only outfit that people would actually wear out on a normal day.

[Costume 2nd place: AAA]

This outfit looks great because it makes the traditional Japanese outfit fee more fun and modern by matching many different patterns together in a haphazard way. I think the winning factor to this outfit is in the fact that it's surprisingly fresh looking for a young group like AAA, and yet it's so darn sexy (MISAKO BOOBIES. URATA AND SHUTA CHEST.) in an understated way. Like the first thing you notice would be "Woah! Japanese costume!" instead of "Woah! Dingdongs!".

Unless you're a perv. Much unlike me. *coughs*

Urata's cap with the patterned fabric sewn onto it was a nice touch too. As was Misako's frilly bikini with the faux navel tattoo. Mmm.

[Costume 1st place: Tohoshinki]

The colors are a bit off for summer (black and white are autumn/winter colors aren't they?) but Tohoshinki looks sharp and fresh in these outfits nonetheless.

The shirt material for the vests makes them all look neat and clean cut and the arm-whoring is a definite plus. In fact, I think the arm-whoring is the only thing that makes this outfit truly a summery one. All their shorter hairstyles keeps them looking brighter and fresher (except Yuchun (second row, first from left), who looks like he's wearing some poor girl's wig, which was bought from a sex store) and more boyish.

I personally like Yunho's (second row, middle) hair the best this time, because of that dark brown color which makes it look so great.

And that's all the outfits! This post was initially intended for posting yesterday, but somehow a short circuit in my brain caused me to forget to publish it. D:
