Q4R #022: WAY TOO OLD ISSUES
Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Yes, this week's Q4R is all about the old issues that I've procrastinated on for too long and thus they've become impossibly irrelevant.

So here they are! (A lot of them! Be very glad!)
  • Have any snarky comments on Namie Amuro's WILD PV?

Sorry to disappoint you woman, but there's no wind in outer space. Unless that is some beach in which I ask "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING WITH A SHINY GOWN ON A BEACH AT NIGHT?!"

Jpop PVs really make no sense a lot of the time.
  • im watching 'we got married', starting on the episode kangin came in at. ANYWAY. can you just explain it to me, what determines the couple's break up? like they just randomly have it one day!? O.O
I have no fucking idea. I gave up when they took out Andy and Solbi because after that the show just went downhill super quickly.

"CHOMP CHOMP I WANT YOUR TEEFS."
  • You HAVE to love Ayu's Next Level right??!! It's AMAZING!!!!
No not really. If you took out all the singles and the rubbish interludes, all that's left behind sounds like a smashed up robot, an emotionless woman in the background and one very amateur producer. The album reeks of digital unprofessionalism to me. It sounds flat on all counts.
  • Did you hear? Someone tried to kill koda kumi! What's your theory to explain this situation? And who do you think would replace ku-chan if she disappeared from the J-pop world.
When I first heard this piece of news, I thought it was really insanely hilarious.

"Must have been one of those crazy menopausal, rotting-uterus women she insulted the year earlier!"

And I subsequently gave it not much thought. Though in retrospect, she probably was asking for it with her lyrics in "Juicy":

Kill me now Ooh tsurete itte Yoru wo koe Akete mo sono mama Kill me tonight Afure dasu atsui BOOSHON

So perhaps it was just an overzealous fan trying to grant her her wish. *shrugs*

And how dare you ask such a question! NO ONE REPLACES KUMI! ...except maybe Hirai Ken? 8D You know he's going to be fierce in those heels. *nods furiously*
  • Come on, you must think Mika Nakashima looks pretty in the PV for Over Load, right? :P

She looks ordinary I guess, which is a step up from freaky, so yeah good job Mika!

Though really, her hair looks like it's going to coil around her neck and kill her in that first picture. Eeks.
  • i cant stand maru's (k8) voice. make him shut up. please.
  • oh, and tell taemin to stop perming his hair. It looks better straight. a lot better. LOL.
  • LOL. and while you're at it, tell key to buy a new wig. His blonde hair looks gross. yuck.
  • ... not that yesungs hair is much better. o.o skunk ?
Er okay. SHINee boys (and Maru), you heard the guy/girl/anonymous person.

OHMAIGOD

Have you seen all the talk going down at jpopmusic RE Roma Tanaka?

Start from page 50 or somewhere around there...

-zeeboom

You know what the interesting thing about this issue is?

It's the fact that referrals to my Tanaka Roma is gay post increased exponentially after this incident exploded. And basically my blog became the official gay source of Roma. Marvelous.

Well after reading all the crap hurled at him, I must say that I'm quite amused AND slightly surprised as well. Who knew he liked such kinky stuff? He looks like the typical gay gym bunny who goes home and whines to his boyfriend about how tough life is before having whiny moany sex in the living room.

I guess it's essentially the same except you switch the whining and moaning out for screaming and yelling in pain. *shrugs*

(P.S: The url provided in the comment is basically useless now, with all the incriminating stuff removed. However, if you google hard enough, you'd be able to find something interesting eventually.)
  • who did it better:

    yesung or massu (hair)
Because there wasn't any photo attached, I honestly have no idea what you're talking about.

So I did a search and assumed you're talking about these hairstyles:

In which I would say I really don't know. Probably Masuda cos I'm more used to seeing his hair like that. Yesung looks like he has trouble with his eyes with his hair like that.

(Also, the show of skin makes me biased, slurp.)

(Also, I think I'm using the wrong photos. The hairstyles in no way look similar. Hm.)
  • What do you think of Naoya Urata's recent karaoke night with JaeJoong and Micky from Toho??

I think he looks like a wannabe. Like "YAY LOOK AT ME I'M WITH THESE HOT YOUNG DUDES ARE YOU JEALOUS YET HAHAHAHA."

He looks old to begin with (not that old isn't sexy, because in many instances it is, though this probably isn't one of them), and going out with younger guys is really not helping his situation. And his arms look really... untrained.

I mean, he looks like a homeless hobo next to Jaejoong. Hm.
  • What's your thoughts on the whole Jay Bum thing?
  • Two words: Jay Park.
What do you think about the whole damned affair? D:<
  • These are really random questions, but I've really enjoyed reading your opinions on celebrities and the sort. Anyway, have you heard of the recent controversy regarding 2PM's Jaebeom and his myspace comments? If so, what do you think of the current situation ? How do you think it will impact the fan culture in Korea (if at all)?
  • jays leaving 2pm.
im at a state of depression.
    thoughts?
Ok so I've probably held off on giving my opinion on this for too long (though this is the "latest" issue of the lot).

I really don't understand Korean netizens. Firstly they give him loads of shit about an issue that is SO SO SO OLD.

Which is fine of course, if that's the way you want to play it. OF COURSE the guy would feel compelled to leave his group right?

So he fulfills their wishes in leaving the group (and heck, even leaving Korea) and then they go ballistic and say "nuuu we want you back".

Make up your fucking mind bitches.

Think about the whole situation from HIS point of view. If you said something horrible about the country you're currently residing in (and are insanely popular in) and the WHOLE COUNTRY knows about what you think of them, wouldn't you want to get away from it all as well?

I mean, how can one live life with weird looks every single day. Everyone's going to know what you once thought of them in the distant past. And even if they don't give it much thought, I think I would be real paranoid and start becoming overly cautious and wary of the people around me. Which is not a way to live at all.

Basically it means that Korea is a place where he would feel terrible in now.

And yet these "fans" want to force him to come back to a place which gives him so much shame and hurt? What the hell is wrong with them? Boycotting the other members of 2PM? Is that what Jaebeom would have wanted?

Seriously, this is why people have a bad impression on fans - because of these impossibly childish and moronic fans who shoot off their mouths and do things without thinking.

You know, you chased him out. He doesn't want to come back. Get over it. Learn your fucking lesson and shut the fuck up next time.

Tanaka Roma is Gay!
Friday, March 13, 2009

Finally! We have proof of his gayness! (Not that it wasn't already obvious enough but you know.)

This was taken from his Xanga, which he updated before his debut as a Jpop singer. Here's one of the entries taken from that site.

I met this guy named, well we'll just call him K. Uh, met him probably a little over a month ago. Friend of a friend. When I first had dinner with him I wasn't that into him at all. Actually my friends refer to him as 4.25 cuz they all asked me how my date went and I said, "Personality, 7. Body, 7. and Face, 4.25!" LOL. I know that was so wrong of me. But as we spent a little more time together and talked on the phone almost every night I grew kinda attached to him and when I'm usually so good at pointing out something wrong with the other person (and in fact I did so as well with K at first) but over time with my friends blessings and support I decided to take a chance with K and began to be a little bit moer assertive.

I GOT THE BOOT! DUMPED! KICKED TO THE CURB!

I slept over one day. DID NOT SLEEP WITH HIM! And all of a sudden after we said bye at the train station, no email, no call, no nothing. I did send him an e-mail or two over the next few days and left him a breif message but no reply. I mean its one thing to dump me to my face or atleast over the phone or through an e-mail. No. none of the above existed and it was foolish of me to have even hoped for that to bring closure to my foolishly aching heart.

After a few days which was actually last night, I sent an email to his friend asking him if he had any clue why K stopped contacting me and told him my thoughts on this issue. Nothing insinuating any negativity. I just told him I had not heard from him in days and that he's checked out my "Gay Friendster" like sight cuz we have that here, kind of like DOWNELINK for those of you who are farmiliar but except with our version it tells us who has been checkin out our sight and when. So basically what was weird to me was he doest call or anything but checks out my sight and probably has read my BLOGS. So anyway I expressed my confustion to K's friend and then this morning K messages me THROUGH this gay friendster site. Not a phone call, or an e-mail. he GAY FRIENDSTERS ME! How fuckin GAY is that!

I didn't edit any part of it. All the typoes and grammar mistakes are purely him! LOVELY.
  1. GAY FRIENDSTERS. LOL. THE IDEA AMUSES ME SO.
  2. BOOT DUMPED AND KICKED TO THE CURB HAHAHAHA. I'm sorry, but you sound really bitchy when you emphasize it like that. It's like saying "I'm not angry! Not annoyed! Not furious!". Yeah yeah, whatever.
  3. The body, face and personality thing. Sigh. Voice 5, Body 7, Star Quality 2. Live with that Roma.
  4. You know why he dumped you? Because you went and just SLEPT OVER AND DID NOT SLEEP WITH HIM. Tease. And then he goes whine about how the other guy sends him mixed signals thereafter. Double standards anyone?
  5. Checking out our sight. Yeah. Welcome to my websight. I learned English from my cat.
  6. Note how he says blogS. Wha? Why own so many if you, oh I don't know, whine about your seemingly mundane life?
  7. "How fuckin GAY is that!" - Not as gay as your blog post it seems.
Sigh, Jpop can be so amusing sometimes.

(It's still boring as heck this year though.)

(And Perfume's One Room Disco is just pure awesomeness. Did I already mention that? I think I did.)

(Happy Friday the 13th everyone!)

How do people find my blog?
Monday, August 11, 2008

I was wondering, surely SOME people must have found my blog through searching via google or something right? What do these people search on the search engines to find my blog? "Hirai Ken fan"? "AAA fan"? "I hate nissy and i want a blog that hates him too"?

Well none of the above it seems. Here are some of the recent ones. (I am not making ANY of these up. This is way too funny. All these were collected from 27th July 2008 till 11th August 2008.)

"Jpop Nasal"

Eh....? Well, I suppose my blog is the most nasal Jpop blog around, if that makes any sense. Than again, it doesn't.

"Shuta Sueyoshi Nude"

Whoever you are (I know you're from france xD), you should chat with me. We would make good friends.

"leah dizon so screwed jin akanishi"

KYAHAHAHA. WHERE DO YOU PEOPLE COME FROM!

And if she screwed Akajin, she's in for a lot of shit from the Jin fans. I do hope she did though! That'll be a ton of fun. Imagine the press! Imagine the apologies! Imagine the crazy suspensions from companies! The fan outrage/despair/glee!

That or they could both get married. Which would be boring. Meh. I now proclaim thee slut and sluttier. You may now suck the bride.

"ken hirai topless" & "hirai ken shirtless"

Another one. You two should chat with me too. xD

"ken hirai's boyfriend" & "hirai ken gay"

It's no longer a rumor. It's a given. HE IS GAY AND LOVING IT MUAHAHA.

(Don't take my word for it.)

"best bitchiest note ever", "The bitchiest thing you can ever do" & "bitchiest blog"

Funniest thing about this is, my blog was the first, first and fourth link that appeared on the search results page. I feel proud, I think. You can remove "best" from the first search and it still ranks my blog first. I HAVE FOUND MY NICHE.

BITCHBITCHBITCHWHINEWHINE. My readership is increasing already! This is AMAZING.

"Misako Uno sexy pictures"

It's official. My blog is the blog for all your Jpop porn needs!

"what does care jopo mean"

.... What? It sounds like something scary that you should not drink.

"tanaka roma gay"

Isn't that already a well known fact? You don't need a blog like mine to tell you that.

"minibar steal"

WHY DO YOU WANT TO STEAL A MINIBAR?! Are you that poor? And please don't steal MY minibar! Raid My Fridge/Wardrobe/Toilet/Kitchen/Box of embarrassing pictures/Pink bunnies just don't have the same ring to it.

"Shige's tight pants"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

"yabu kota topless"

Raid My Minibar version 13: Serving up hot child porn. Oh wait, I already did that. Hmm.

"worst group in je kat-tun"

Congratulations. You have reached enlightenment.

"Yamapi Crotch"

Once again, the first site the appears on google when you search this. This is bad.

"tamori gay"

Oh my. That might explain why he is so chummy with Kenken....

"come into my dream vocal raid"

HAHAHAHAHA. NO THANK YOU.

And then there are the various scandals - Takitsuba , AAA, Arashi, Koda Kumi, Ohno Satoshi etc etc. My blog is just so scandalous. It's a darn negative influence.

And then there are those that find my blog directly using my name, which makes me feel quite happy! But to my dismay, most of you think it is Raid My Mini Bar. If you've noticed, Mini and Bar are joined together. Like Raid My MINIBAR.

HA! I'm so anal.

And then there are those that think I have a Livejournal account and search for that. But I don't, so it's a wonder how you found me really.

More reviews? (Part 1 of 2)
Friday, April 4, 2008

Apparently so. I pretty much avoided reviewing anything music-related (except PVs) recently, much due to me being totally unsure of my... proficiency in it. It seems to me that I keep repeating what I say, just in different words. Which of course makes me kind of feel like I'm just bullshitting my way through the whole entry. Which is bad.

Which is why I stopped reviewing. But now, there are NO PVs to review, and NOTHING interesting to blog about recently, hence me resorting to something I adamantly decided to avoid since a few weeks ago. Boy that was one long ramble.

Let's just get to it shall we? I've chosen 3 singles to review:

1. haru X daniel powter - FIND MY WAY
2. Tanaka Roma feat. Aoyama Thelma - Forever Love
3. Kanjani 8 - WAHAHA

The slightly less famous three, but should be fun.

[The Good]

Kanjani 8 has done it again with WAHAHA. Another crazy tune that makes you go "WTF?" upon first listen. Synthetic sounds and keyboards dominate the main tune of the song with various brass instruments here and there. The result is an overly cheerful song overflowing with drunken chants like "KE TA KE TA KE TA!" and "OOH OOH!". Pretty standard Kanjani 8 stuff, so if you hated their previous stuff, this won't sit well with you either. Well at least one can't say this is a forgettable song, which it obviously not by any means.

Kanjani 8 is pretty lucky in my opinion to have found a niche in doing "crazy" music. Their voices are by no means great and certainly won't compare to any other JE bands had they been doing "normal" stuff. But because they're doing such mind-blowing music, you can help but be distracted by the mad-antics and forgive them for their bad singing. Heck, even their bad singing is passable in such songs.

The second song, Dare yori kimi ga suki dakara is really old school. VERY old school. Much like 1980s Japanese ballads kind of old. This, I did NOT expect from K8. It sounds like something KinKi Kids would have done when they were just debuting. You know, the kind where the guys go on music shows wearing ugly suits and spins around while smoke drifts around them for no reason.

The vocals and harmonies work well to have a rather fascinating tune that is very un-K8. Man, this song just contradicted my previous paragraph. K8 CAN do normal music (or near-normal, considering this song is kind of odd as well) if they wanted to. A very different side of K8 if you ask me. Be prepared to be surprised.

The last song BJ is the rock song. The one Kanjani 8 is trying so hard to dabble with.

Now excuse me while I laugh about how a bunch of odd guys are singing about something called BJ. Oh boy, that's just pure magic. I think I just heard Speedo in the song. Even better.

This song would have worked better with Tackey & Tsubasa. For some reason I have that TxT vibe from this song. It's decent yes, but the vocals let the song down too much for it to be a good song. Pretty keys, a solid rock tune and strong drum beats couldn't save this song from the vocal onslaught. Too nasal in too many places.

Try out this single if you're into crazy songs. Or if you just want to have some good old silly fun.

[The so-so]

haru x daniel powter's FIND MY WAY begins with the piano... why am I not surprised? haru's voice is kind of unique and attractive in an unexplainable way. He sounds kind of... haphazard at parts, but does well overall.

The problem I have with this song is not the tune, which to be honest is really really good. The problem I have with this is how it seems that this song doesn't sound like a "haru X daniel powter" song, but rather a "haru VS daniel powter" song. It doesn't show itself until the end of the first chorus. The song was really pleasant before that. But after the first chorus? It was "OHHH YEAHHHH!" and "FIND MY WAYYYYY~~~~ OOOOOOH~~~" all over. It was pure orchestrated chaos. Which I suppose works for some people, but it was just really jarring to me after a while.

Otherwise this song is really just a typical Daniel Powter tune, with enough influence from haru to make it sound a bit Jpoppy. Worth trying if you like Daniel Powter's previous works. Or if you're into the power-acoustic-pop stuff.

[The BAD]

Tanaka Roma is the exact reverse of Kanjani 8. He has decent talent, just that he has not found his specialty at all. This single is just another classic case of how lost he is in his search for his true "calling".

Forever Love is mainly made up of very very pretty piano music and a lot of airy vocals. I have NO idea what happened to him in this song, but his voice is really really substandard in this song. I also find it weird that a guy with such dance prowess and such a physique would want to release a single in the ballads genre. One would think that since he's not all that popular to begin with, he would try to emphasize on his strengths to gain himself a decent fanbase first before trying out senseless singles like this.

The song also features Aoyama Thelma, who is insanely popular in Japan right now. So naturally, shouldn't she get a bigger part in the song such that her fans might be more supportive? All she had was one lousy line and "ooh"s and "aah"s throughout the rest of the song. It's no wonder none of her fans bothered with this single.

I get the feeling that they were trying to make a magical, Disney-ish love song that is all serene and beautiful. However, Roma's rough and husky vocals simply do not fit this image and to be quite honest, his voice doesn't go well with Aoyama's either. In any case, bad combinations all around.

The second song Free sounds like a 90s pop tune, which is a BIG step up from the titular track. His voice fits the song slightly better, framed by loads of synthesized music. The feel one gets from the song is a relaxed and refreshing one. While this is not really suitable for the dance-master image I think he should adopt, it's at least slightly more danceable than his previous track. The chorus is a bit yell-ish, as he tries to shove down your throat how "frEEEEEEEEEE" he feels. And that clashes with the rest of the song. It's like pork chops on a fresh garden salad.... or something like that. Not really suitable, but if you're weird and twisted, you might like it somehow.

Try out this single only if you're a desperate blogger with nothing to blog about and need a bad single to dump in a "the bad" section of your post. Try harder next time Roma!

I guess I'll just never understand...

... J-urban music.

I mean, I know they're not getting AWESOME sales or something, but still is it really neccessary to go on this "featuring" spree?

Soulja did it first by featuring Thelma Aoyama in his hit song Koko ni Iru Yo. Everyone loved it because the song was great and both of them fit well together. Fair enough.

Seeing as how popular Thelma is (judging from the response of the fans for the aforementioned song), they decided to release Soba ni Iru ne, featuring Soulja. I mean, is there REALLY any point?! It's like a singer releases "Are you lonely" (just an example), which turns out to big hit, and then a female singer comes along in the next few months to sing "Yes I am lonely".

Or something similarly ridiculous.

Then m-flo did it by featuring (or "loving" if you insist) a WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE in their latest song love comes and goes. It might be a cool idea to some, myself included, but the cynical part of me can't help but sniff panicky marketing schemes. Almost like "ARGH WE DON'T KNOW WHICH OF THEM IS BEST TO FEATURE.... Oh wait, let's just throw ALL of them in! There must be someone for everyone right?!" Didn't work for me. The whole thing just sounds... like a collage. Quirky at best, but hardly polished by any means.

And now, to promote Tanaka Roma, they're releasing Forever Love feat Thelma Aoyama.

*headtable so many times that I had to stop typing for 3 hours to get myself a new table*

If you take a listen to the whole song, Thelma Aoyama doesn't sing much at all. All she does is one random line at the bridge and then "oohs" and "ahhs" throughout the rest of the song. Simply put, she's just there in hopes that fans of her will support her and give Roma a chance. Otherwise, they're hoping that by putting a more familiar name in the song title, the public would at least care more about the release.

Now why don't they just think of better marketing strategies. It's sad really. The song is rather decent, and Tanaka Roma has a great voice. True, his previous releases sold ATROCIOUSLY, but still he has TONS of talent and potential to be a star.

Besides, I fully attribute his past failures to overly gay-looking covers.

With better strategies and probably better target markets, Tanaka Roma is set to shine. But at this rate they're going now, I highly doubt he will ever become a success. Does J-urban companies really take us to be THAT stupid?
